Five Freedoms for all Animals

Freedom from hunger and thirst –provide fresh water and the correct type and amount of food for all animals to ensure they maintain a suitable weight and good health

Freedom from discomfort – provide a suitable environment and shelter. Shelters must be weatherproof and provide shelter from wind, rain, heat and cold.

Freedom from pain, injury and disease- aim to avoid and prevent injury and ill health. If ill health or injury does occur provide suitable and prompt treatment.

Freedom to behave normally- provide adequate and suitable space and companionship to enable an animal to display normal behavioural traits.

Freedom from fear and distress- handle and care for animals in a manner which does not cause pain, discomfort, anxiety or fear
